  2. Hi MaryAnn,
Yes I do remember! He would pick up his footstool and quickly fold it up and smile at the audience as if to say, “I’m done”. This eventually became a “signature” ending for his concerts.

  3. James J. Lorusso Hi MaryAnn and all other members,
I just remembered a great story about Maestro Yepes. I went with some friends to a Turibio Santos concert, (sorry if any of those friends reads this) I can’t even remember who I was with, it was so long ago. We were waiting for Turibio to come out on stage, we were in the very front row and I looked over to my left and low and behold only two seats over from us was non other than Narciso Yepes!! I couldn’t believe it, I turned to my friend and said your not going to believe this but Yepes is sitting right next to us.
Then when the concert was over we saw Jose Franco (who was teaching at SUNY Purchase at that time) about to introduce Yepes to Turibio Santos. Just at the moment Franco began to start his introduction, Yepes almost shouted, Turibio, with outstreched arms and Turibio yelled Narciso, in the same way and they both embraced one another. Jose Franco just stood there with egg on his face, because they were obviously already close friends. We just stood there in awe of all that had just happened! From sitting next to Yepes and getting to see his reactions to another great guitarist throughout the concert, to this scene backstage of an obvious reunion of two friends. We didn’t even know they knew one another!
We couldn’t stop talking about all of this on the way home from the concert.

  4. What a great story!! I don’t think I was at that concert. Nevertheless, I remember how much Jose Franco used to make a big deal out of who he knew. Remember the Westchester Classical Guitar Society? He was a big wheel on the board and I actually was on the board myself for one year. They were all talking about how much they wanted to get Yepes for a concert in Westchester and Jose Franco says: ” I know hint perthonally and I can get hint for a concert in one year!!” And they did!!
