Performer
James Lorusso showed signs of talent in the visual arts
from an early age, so it was assumed by his family that
he would become an artist. After devoting years to his artwork,
he began his study of the guitar at age 13, and due to his
exceptional progress was able to begin performing within
two years. His first formal classical guitar recital was
in 1972, at Manhattanville College’s Reid Hall, known as
the “Castle.” In 1976, he was appointed to the faculty
and has remained the only classical and fingerstyle
guitar teacher to the present day. After that first Manhattanville concert,
Jim’s performances gradually increased throughout the United
States, Puerto Rico, and Spain. His New York debut concert
was in CAMI Hall, in 1984.
Besides solo concerts, Jim has been performing in duo
with his wife, MaryAnn (also a guitarist and lutenist),
since their marriage in 1978.
